Come and hear the story of our trip into the heart of justice in India, enjoy the music of Songs of Water and Mark Mathis, and become aware through the voice of Deborah Walker. There is no ticket price for the night, but a suggested donation of $15 to go to Freedom Firms efforts to free these girls in India will be collected at the door.

North Carolina-based group Songs of Water has emerged from the South East with a sound both ancient and modern in an inventive fusion. This five-piece quintet, composed primarily of instrumental music, harbors a wide variety of cultural and stylistic influences. The uncommon use of the Appalachian folk instrument, the hammered dulcimer, melodically leads many of the group's pieces, followed by the resonance of various acoustic instruments and a brooding foundation of heavy percussion. Combining Band Leader, Stephen Roach's world music influence with the classical background of violinist Marta Richardson, the Spanish infused guitar of co-founder Jason Windsor, and multi-instrumentation of Greg Willette and Michael Pritchard, Songs of Water creates a unique sound that reaches beyond the common mileu.

Mark Mathis is a new-folk and Americana singer from North Carolina who crafts thoughtful musical commentaries on life, love and politics. His new solo CD, We Both Was Young, mixes simple but affecting poetry with inspired melodies and warm, acoustic production.

Deborah Walker lives and works in India where she is on staff with Freedom Firm, an organization that works to rescue restore and bring justice to the victims of sex trafficking in India. We met her while in Pune where she works with local authorities to rescue young girls from brothels and track them through the rehabilitation process. She has many stories to tell and her perspective is invaluable for anyone who has a heart to see sex trafficking and forced prostitution abolished.
